The library, with 13 x 13 feet of usable floor space, is capped by a
cathedral pine beadboard ceiling, sloping asymmetrically from 11 feet at
the wall to nearly 24 feet at the peak. Record directly on the hard
maple floor, or unroll our thick carpet for a darker tone.
Wall-to-wall bookshelves on two walls provide built-in diffusion, as do
the sturdy fake ceiling beams. The landing to the open stairway
provides a few extra square feet for gear or vocalists, and the top of
the library opens to an odd-shaped loft for even more interesting
reflections. With acoustics like these, who needs reverb? (We, of
course, have both.)
